Mangaluru: A rare competition in a pre-university educational setting, to explore and display the culinary skills of students and parents together viz. ‘Master Chef Contest 2019’ was jointly organised by the Expert PU College, valachil and Spices N Chefs, a unit of SPADE Integrated Services. After a tough preliminary round, 10 teams were selected out of 150 teams. In the final, each team consists of three students and one parent, required to prepare Soup, Salad, Main course and Dessert within 90 minutes. They cooked under the watchful eyes of the judges and prepared delicious dishes ranging from Kashmir to Kanyakumari.
Prof. Narendra L. Nayak, Chairman, Expert Group of Institutions presided over the function. Addressing the gathering he said “Irrespective of children select any career area, one needs to be an average cook will enhances the possibility of success in life”.
Mr. Sinu Vijayan, Executive chef, The Gateway Hotel (Taj) inaugurated the competition. In his inaugural address Mr. Sinu stated that it is unusual for a PU college to conduct a cooking competition of this mega scale. It shows that Expert underlines activities in co-scholastic areas as well.
Dr. Ushaprabha N Nayak, Vice-Chairperson, Expert Group of Institutions opined that of all artistic skills in this world, cooking is the first prototype and having universal appeal. On the judging panel Mr. Sinu Vijayan, Taj Gateway, Mrs. Komal Prabhu, CKK Kitchens of Maharaja, Mrs Mariam Mohiudeen, Baker’s Treat and Dr. Ushaprabha N Nayak, Vice-Chairperson, Expert Group of Institutions were there.
Mr. Ashwin Pais, Director, SPADE Integrated Services, Pvt. Ltd briefed about the programme.
Mr. Ankush N Nayak, Director, IT, Expert Group of Institutions, Mrs. Deepika A Nayak, Dr. N K Vijayan Karippal, Principal, Expert PU College, Valachil, Mr. Dinesh Palliyil, Managing Director, SPADE Integrated Services, Mr. Rajesh Thazham, Unit Manager, Spices & Chefs were present.
Ms. Roshni Upasna, HR Executive of Expert PU College, compered the programme. Mr. Preetham Micky Nazareth, Senior F&B Executive, Spices N Chefs proposed vote of thanks.
Team Saffron consists of Ms. Akanksha Ranjan, Ms. Neha Angadi, Ms. Avani Kamath and Mrs. Lata Sridhar, Team Turmeric consists of Ms. Athulya Amblish, Ms.Spoorthi, Ms. Dharini Hindlatti, Mrs. Sujaya and Team Cumin consists of Ms. Hanan Maryam, Ms. Ambika Almaje, Ms. Shreya Sajjan, and Mrs. Jyothi Almaje are the winners, first runner up and second runner up respectively.
