Teachers’ Day was celebrated at Expert P.U. College, Valachil, Mangaluru with solemnity and grandeur. Professor K. Sankaran, Director, Justice K.S. Hegde Institute of Management, Nitte was the Chief Guest.
The formal programme began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp. The dignitaries and guests paid homage to Dr. S. Radhakrishnan, the former president of India by offering floral tributes. Students honoured the teachers with flowers and mementos.
Professor K. Sankaran began his address by appreciating "Shramayeva Jayathe", the College Anthem. Quoting the words of Dr. S. Radhakrishnan, he extolled the virtues of the teaching profession, as teachers play the noble role of moulding the lives of students. He paid rich tributes to the teachers who inspired him and shared interesting anecdotes highlighting the importance of teachers. Expounding the thought that teachers are made by students, he clarified that the purpose of education was not to make things practical, but to make practical what is possible. He also illustrated that freedom and discipline are not mutually exclusive but congruent. He exorcised exam fear from the minds of students by stating that the purpose of conducting exams is to let students know where they stand, so that they constantly improve themselves.
Mrs. Ushaprabha N. Nayak, Vice Chairperson of Expert Educational & Charitable Foundation congratulated the students on planning the event in an innovative manner. At the same time she urged them to understand the role of teachers and co-operate with them so that both teachers and students grow academically. Mr. Balakrishna Shetty, H.O.D. Dept. Of Chemistry and Mr. Shrinivasa, H.O.D. Dept. of Sanskrit spoke on behalf of the entire teaching community.
Prof. Narendra L. Nayak, Chairman of Expert Educational and Charitable Foundation, in his Presidential address encouraged students and teachers to aspire for perfection and prove that they are they best. Citing the vachanas of Sarvajna, he cautioned the students not to prejudge teachers and advised them to gain comprehensive knowledge by respecting teachers .
Miss Aishwarya V. Nayak, Convener, Communication, Student Parliament walked down the memory lane to deliver a speech on the topic ‘Guruvandana’ and shared fond memories of her teachers. Prof. Narendra L. Nayak, Chairman, Expert Educational & Charitable Foundation presented mementos to the Chief Guest. Mr. Ankush N. Nayak, Alumnus of Expert P.U. College; Ustad Rafique Khan, Trustee; Mr. Suresh Pai, Trustee; Dr. N. K. Vijayan, Principal; Mr. N. Gurudutt, Vice Principal and Mr. Ganesh Kudva graced the programme along with other special invitees. The formal programme was followed by cultural extravaganza by students. The teachers were treated to several fun games and activities by students.
Mast. Ashrith Kurunji, General Secretary, Student Parliament welcomed the gathering while Mast. Subhash Nayak K. Joint General Secretary, Student Parliament proposed the vote of thanks.
Miss Mukkatira Neelima Kuttappa, Vice President, Student Parliament compered the formal programme, while Mast. Abhishek Patil. K and Mast. Prajath S.R., both II PUC students, compered the cultural programme.
Mr. Sudheer Rai, Programme Director and Physics Faculty along with Mrs. Shilpa, Biology Faculty and Cultural Co-ordinator provided valuable guidance to the students in organizing the programme.
